Andrew P. Gater, HBSc, DDS, FRCD (C)
Dr. Andrew Gater is a graduate of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Program at the University of Illinois in Chicago. Before completing his surgical residency, Dr. Gater attended the University of Western Ontario, earning an Honors degree in Molecular Genetics and a dental degree. While in London, Dr. Gater was part of a volunteer medical outreach team that traveled to Tanzania, East Africa to provide health care to residents of rural communities. He then completed an Externship in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children and Toronto General Hospital.
While at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), Dr. Gater underwent extensive training in anesthesia, TMJ, dentoalveolar, pediatric, and craniofacial surgery. He also completed his surgical trauma training at the world-renowned Cook County Hospital in Chicago.
Dr. Gater earned his Fellowship from the Royal College of Dentists of Canada in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He is currently Chief of the Division of Maxillofacial Surgery and Dentistry at the Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre in Barrie, Ontario and has a particular interest in orthognathic, bone grafting and implant surgery.
Dr. Gater believes that his patient's safety is of utmost importance. His attendance in continuing education courses in both surgery and anesthesia allow him to stay current in the advances of both fields. He maintains an active status with the American Heart Association in both Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS). He is also an active member of the Ontario and Canadian Dental Associations, the Ontario Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the Canadian Dental Society of Anesthesiology and the Muskoka-Simcoe Dental Society.
Dr. Gater, his wife Carrie, and their two children reside in Innisfil and enjoy travel, skiing, and wake surfing.
