In order to reduce the chances of having this happening once surgery is done, it is important that the patient continues the best care. Our oral surgery staff is able to provide specific directions that should be followed for this reason.

However, if a patient gets a fever after having oral surgery, it is important that they speak with our office regarding the best course of treatment. Learn more about why a fever after oral surgery is something that should not ever be ignored.

Seeking Help for a Fever Following Surgery

Having a fever after oral surgery can indicate that the patient has an infection that needs to be addressed. This infection can cause further complications if it travels further in the body. If you were prescribed antibiotics after having oral surgery, they should be taken to reduce the chances of having an infection happen. If none were prescribed, give our oral surgeons a call to have some prescribed for you so that you can reduce the chances of having complications.

Any fevers should not be ignored during this time. They can indicate a much bigger problem. Taking over the counter pain medication is recommended, but antibiotics are needed in this case, as this can mean infection. Having the site cleaned out and assessed is recommended to rule out other complications that might be occurring in the surgical site area.
