What You can Do Pre-Surgery to Make Post-Surgery Better

Posted on 9/30/2016 by Tricia Ramsay
A patient planning with her dentist for her oral surgery. No one understand how much a surgery can put a wrench in things like us. At Huronia Oral Surgery Group we do our very best to ensure a problem free procedure that will end in a snappy recovery, but there is always some healing time involved.

Fortunately, we have a few helpful tips that will guide you in your quest for an enjoyable recovery.

Schedule Wisely

Everyone is busy - always. You feel the weight of the world on your shoulder on a daily basis, so do we, that's how we know. Every once in a while you have to put yourself first, especially when it comes to recovering from surgery. Make sure that you schedule enough time to allow for full recovery. Trying to get back to your regular routine can end up causing complications that can set you back even longer!

Scheduling a surgery around a holiday can buy you an extra few days off. Rest, relax, and get better. We are happy to work with your schedule and we will always let you know how long it should take you to recover.

Prepare Your Pantry

Stock up on the soft foods that are easy to eat ahead of time because it's no fun having to find someone to do your shopping for you. Soft foods are recommended because they are easier on the surgery site. We recommend applesauce, potatoes, soups, oatmeal, and nutritional drinks. Don't use straws after surgery.

Have Something to Occupy Yourself

Grab a book. Binge watch a TV show. Attempt a puzzle. Make sure you have something to do after surgery that doesn't involves your everyday responsibilities. It can be hard not to go back to the same old routine but for your sake, find something that will allow you to take it easy. A quick and successful recovery time will be a much more fruitful endeavor than overexerting yourself and having to wait longer to get back to full health.

Please contact us if you have any questions about preparing for your oral surgery.
