Nobody likes to have surgery and the same can be said for oral surgery. Despite how necessary it is, a lot of people do end up dreading it.

Although it is not usually as bad as you would imagine, it can be somewhat painful afterwards as the different parts of your mouth heal.

In fact, oral surgery can often make eating quite tricky and this is what tends to irritate a lot of people. It is therefore a good idea to find the best way for you to recover after having these procedures done!

Things You Should Do After Oral Surgery

Rest! This could mean lying down. If at all possible, try to take a day off work to let your entire body and mind recover. In order to prevent swelling, make sure that your head is propped up with pillows.

You do not want to have the blood draining into the wounds. A lot of people also tend to use ice packs which help to stock the swelling. Keep it on your face for fifteen minutes and then give yourself a fifteen-minute break from it.

Don't rinse your mouth for about 24 after the surgery. After that, make sure to keep your mouth as clean as possible. Avoid foods with extreme temperatures as well: extremely hot and cold foods will only serve to cause you more pain. We sometimes prescribe antibiotics to patients, so if you do take them, then make sure to finish the entire prescription.

There are a lot of things you can do to ensure that you recover faster from your oral surgery. Patients who have questions and want the best advice can of course always come to speak with us and see how else we can help with recovery.
